Gear and crafting

Gear drops with a tier, a quality grade and random stats. The blacksmiths in Emberhold and Hearthvale make it better.

Upgrades (+1 to +10)

Each level raises the item's base stats. Higher levels need rarer materials and are less likely to succeed. A failure costs the materials and gold but never the item, and each failure in a row makes the next try likelier.

Gems and sockets

Gear can drop with up to three sockets. Gems drop from monsters (better ones from elites and bosses) and come in five tiers: Chipped, Flawed, Regular, Flawless, Perfect. Three of a tier combine into one of the next.

Gems: Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz, Emerald, Diamond, Amethyst, Prismatic Gem. Prismatic gives every main stat at a lower value, one per item.

Crafting at the blacksmith

  • Temper: reroll an item's stat values.
  • Imbue: add one extra stat, chosen from three offers.
  • Reforge: change one stat into a different one.
  • Salvage: break an item down into materials.

Lock an item (Alt+click) to protect it from selling, salvaging and destroying.

Wearing several pieces of a set unlocks bonuses at 2, 3 and 5 pieces, and the bigger ones change how your skills work.
